Re-Elect George Diehr to the
CalPERS Board of Administration
I was first elected to the CalPERS Board in January 2003 and re-elected for a second term beginning January 2007. I am now running for a third term to represent active employees of State agencies and the California State University. My elections were the product of support and efforts of hundreds of volunteers who worked tirelessly. My second term of office expires January 15, 2011. I'm seeking your support and vote so that I may continue to serve the interests of hard-working public employees and retirees.
During the past 7+ years I have defended our pension and health benefits from attacks by extremists whose objectives are not to save the state money much less benefit public servants. With the state facing severe budget shortfalls, the economy shaky, and financial markets well below previous highs, the attacks have intensified.
I have worked to educate our members so that we can collectively defend our benefits. One of my PowerPoint presentations on the "DB vs. DC" debate is included at this site.
The current challenges and threats to the system - your benefits - are unprecedented. This is no time to experiment with an inexperienced, untested board member. The experience and knowledge I have gained and my relationships with CalPERS board members and managers are unmatched by my opponent.
